Flipped – Selected
Jesus went up on a mount to give us a new law. In the beginning of his message he gave us what many now call the ‘Beatitudes’. These were an invitation to join the new kingdom Jesus was founding. But the invitation wasn’t given to the rich and the powerful. It was not given to the people that mankind would have thought the kingdom would need. The invitation was given to those who recognized their own need for the kingdom.

This is the third message in our series ‘Flipped’, which is taken from Jesus’ sermon on the mount. In our first lesson, (Selected), we learned that Jesus is giving a new law to establish a new kingdom. In the second message we learned how Jesus calls us to serve in this new kingdom as salt and light. The rest of the message teaches us what this new kingdom looks like. Today we look at one aspect of how to see each other when we are in conflict. We are not doormats, but we protect the dignity of both people.

Charity is a difficult topic! Many people today sincerely need help. Sadly, many other people abuse the generosity of others. In this message we will look to one aspect of giving found in the Sermon on the Mount. Lord willing, this can give us wisdom to help discern how God is leading us in our own acts of charity.

This is the second video in our sermon series called “Flipped!”. In the first series we saw how Jesus gave the sermon on the mount to establish a new kingdom. In the ‘Beatitudes’, (the message called ‘Selected’), we saw how Jesus invited the listener to this new kingdom. He then calls those who respond to be ‘salt and light’. This is how we serve in this new kingdom.

This is the last message of our sermon series called “Flipped”. In it we have looked at Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. That message turned the world upside down! As we draw to a close, Jesus challenges us to make a choice. Do we want to follow the crowd along the wide and easy road towards destruction? Or, are we willing to do the heavy lifting in our own spiritual lives to stay on the narrow path? This is the way that leads to life. It is not the easy path, but it is the path that brings the greatest joy. Join us as we decide which path to take.
